The Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ is also known as the Solemnity of Corpus Christi, which translates from Latin to “Body of Christ.” This feast originated in France in the mid-thirteenth century and was extended to the whole Church by Pope Urban IV in 1264. In the United States, this feast is celebrated on the Sunday following Trinity Sunday.
The Feast of Corpus Christi is commonly used as an opportunity for public Eucharistic processions, which serves as a sign of common faith and adoration. Our worship of Jesus in His Body and Blood calls us to offer to God our Father a pledge of undivided love and an offering of ourselves the service of others.
Our parish will host a Corpus Christi Procession on Sunday, June 7th following the 11AM Mass. We will depart from the sanctuary with the Holy Eucharist and proceed up to and around Lincoln Park and then return to the church sanctuary for benediction. All are invited to process with us as we bring the ‘True’ presence of the Eucharist to the community. If you are unable to walk, you are welcome to remain in the sanctuary and pray the rosary with others.
