As your Pastor, I ask that all of you consider praying the Rosary daily during the month of October. There is so much for which we must pray. Here are the weekly intentions:
- Oct 1-4 For an end to this pandemic
- Oct 5-11 For peace in our land
- Oct 12-18 For racial justice
- Oct 19-25 For the upcoming elections
- Oct 26-31 For unity in a very divided country
We must also pray for our parish: that all will return to the Sacraments when it is prudent and that we may continue to grow through Word, Sacrament and Witness. At this time, many of us are not able to gather for Mass, but here is an opportunity to be united in an effort of prayer.
In all her apparitions, Our Blessed Lady has urged all the faithful to pray the rosary daily and has assured us that it is one of our essential weapons to avert disaster in our world and thwart the devil’s plan. The rosary has also been called “the Gospel on a string” since we meditate on the most essential events of our Lord’s life. Hence, we confound Satan, and grow in our faith and gratitude for what the Lord has done to save us.
October is dedicated as the Month of the Rosary because we celebrate the memorial of Our Lady of the Rosary on October 7. The origins goes back to October 7, 1541 during one of the largest naval battles in Western history where two navies were in the pivotal Battle of Lepanto on the seas. Pius V knew he needed more than just military strength to defend Christian Europe, so he asked that all the faithful pray the rosary requesting the intercessions of the Blessed Mother. After the miraculous victory, Pius V established a feast on October 7 in honor of the Blessed Mother, originally called Our Lady of Victory. After a few centuries, the name was changed to Our Lady of the Rosary to more clearly recognize that prayer was the greatest power at work that day on the seas.
The rosary is an invitation to experience the grace of Mary’s spiritual motherhood as she leads us to her Son, Jesus. Maybe this would be a good month to pray the rosary to see what graces the Lord wants to pour into your life from the rose garden of this daily meditation.
Included here is information on How To Pray The Rosary. As we become aware of other ministries that will offer opportunities to pray the rosary via Zoom or other venues, we will list them in the bulletin and this page.
Pray the rosary every day at a time that you are able to meditate. Pray with your spouse, children or friends. Pray with others on the phone. Don’t worry if you can’t pray at the same time each day, just find a time to pray. Won’t you join with us in prayer this October? Won’t you make a pledge to pray the rosary every day?
